The National Green Tribunal has called for a factual and action taken report from Deputy Commissioner, Hamirpur, Municipal Council, Hamirpur and Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, about the grievance raised that on account of failure to handle waste which is being burnt, causing air pollution, resulting in diseases and loss of livestock and contributing to forest fires and loss of wildlife, at Village of Dughneri, District Hamirpur.
A bench led by Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel gave the direction while hearing a petition filed by Rita Sharma & Ors alleging that due to failure to handle waste, there is an increase in population of monkeys, feral dogs and scavengers namely crows, vultures, etc. Dump site in the hilly terrain is overflowing and contaminating water body, which is a source of irrigation.
The applicant also relied on photographs and letters addressed to the authorities pointing out the deficiencies. Accordingly, the bench directed the authorities to file the report within one month and directed that "Himachal Pradesh State PCB will be the nodal agency for coordination and compliance." It further directed that order be sent to the Deputy Commissioner, Hamirpur, Municipal Council, Hamirpur and Himachal Pradesh State PCB by email.
