UPSC Extra Chance For Last Attempt Candidates : 'Is It Possible To Give Age Relaxation?', SC Asks Centre - LIVE UPDATES
CU Singh says that the petitioners are not questioning the Union's suggestion that this is a one-time chance, which is not to be treated as precedent.
He adds that whenever such relaxations were granted in past, age-bar was also relaxed.
CU Singh says it is not a large number, around 2300.
CU Singh : For SC/ST candidates, handicapped candidates, there is no limit in number of attempts. So if the benefit is given only to last chance candidates, SC/ST, PWD candidates will be excluded.
CU Singh : 2236 candidates who had last chance last year are age-barred.
If age-bar is not relaxed, all SC/ST candidates, handicapped candidates will be excluded.
CU Singh : The only difficulty is with the age-bar.
CU Singh refers to the note submitted by the ASG on Friday and says that the extra chance offer is limited to only last chance candidates subject to age-bar.
The bench takes up the case.
Sr Adv C U Singh says he appears for the petitioners along with Sr Adv Syam Divan.
