The Supreme Court is hearing a petition seeking extra chance in UPSC exams for those civil service aspirants who exhausted their last attempt in October 2020.
On the last hearing date(February 5), the Centre and the UPSC had told a bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar that they are agreeable to giving extra chance for candidates who gave last attempt in October, subject to age-bar, as a "one time relaxation".

Justice Khanwilkar says that the matter cannot be kept pending long, and that the bench will hear it on merits tomorrow, if the Centre is not coming with a resolution by tomorrow.

ASG Raju says that the candidates who felt that they could not prepare well had the option of backing out, and such candidates were eligible for extra chance. He adds that petitioners are persons who chose to appear.

ASG Raju says that the petitions have no merit and that candidates were given sufficient time, around 8 months to prepare.
Justice Khanwilkar says that if age-relaxation is given it is going to benefit only around 2300 candidates.
