Centre Notifies Appointment Of Chief Justices Of Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand High Courts

The Central Government has notified the appointment of Chief Justices of two High Courts – Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand High Court.

While Justice G. Narendar has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, Justice GS Sandhawalia has been appointed as the Himachal Pradesh High Court's Chief Justice.

On September 24, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of Justice Narendar G, judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court upon the retirement of present CJ Ms Justice Ritu Bahri on 10 October 2024.

Earlier, Justice GS Sandhawalia(Punjab & Haryana High Court Judge) was recommended as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, however, the Collegium on September 17 modified its recommendations and advised Justice Suresh Kumar Kait named as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Furthermore, Justice Sandhawalia, was proposed to be appointed as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court after October 18, 2024 (the date of retirement of Justice Rajiv Shakhder, who was earlier recommended as the CJ of HP HC).
