Delhi Riots- Facebook India VP's Challenge against Delhi Assembly Summons: Live Updates From Supreme Court
Salve: If an organization(refers to Facebook) is working in a way, that is for union government to summon us. The Legislative Assembly cannot do so. They rely on WSJ articles which are completely polarized. This is not how the powers are to be exercised. This is abuse of powers.
Salve now refers to the counter affidavit filed by Mr. Shadan Farasat dated 5th October 2020.
Salve: The committee wanted to drag us because it wanted to say that Facebook was siding with the ruling government.
Salve: This is the problem with the delhi government. None of this is connected with Facebook. We are being unnecessarily dragged in this matter.
J. Kaul: When they said that a supplementary chargesheet will be filed, but the committee is not the one to file chargesheet.
Salve: Lets not have the concept of cooperative federalism. The committee was clear since the beginning what it wanted to do. This is highly political matter.
“In this context, after finding this prima facie, it becomes imperative that this committee should ask Facebook India officials to appear before them to present their case.”
Salve asks the bench to mark the allegation.
“There is a degree of headiness which comes in. “ he submits.
Salve reads further “Surprisingly, a very important thing that came to committee's notice is the evidence that the content which is harmonious in nature, promotes unity and amity between two communities i.e. brotherhood, love, peace and harmony, Facebook removes that content.”
Salve now reading minutes of the press conference held by the y Peace and Harmony Committee dated 31st August 2020.
“As the issue of Delhi riots is still going in the court, a supplementary charge sheet should be filled considering Facebook as a co-accused.” He reads.
Salve: One has to be naïve in believing that such a notice has anything to do with cooperative federalism. But we will still proceed with considering it as a legal fiction.
