Awareness Program For The Rights And Protection Of Senior Citizens At NUSRL

The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, organized a one-day awareness campaign focusing on senior citizens' rights, government schemes, and legal protection. This event was sponsored by the National Institute of Social Defense (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India). The program's objective was to identify the problems faced by senior citizens and raise awareness about government schemes and legal assistance available to them.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ashok R. Patil highlighted the importance of the program. He explained how the university is playing a role in society through such initiatives. He mentioned the university's free legal aid center and urged the senior citizens to share the knowledge they gained here with people in their villages and surroundings.

Assistant Professor Dr. Arabinda Sahoo started his address with a story to establish the significance and role of senior citizens in society. He raised the issues they face within the community.

Assistant Registrar Dr. Jisu Ketan Pattanaik emphasized the importance of the program sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. He conducted a participatory session to make participant aware of their issues.

Ms. Ritu Kumari, Branch Manager of the Bank of India NUSRL campus, provided detailed information on pension-related issues, the importance of linking Aadhaar, and ways to prevent fraud. She also discussed schemes like the Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, Life Insurance Scheme, and Recurring Deposit, which can be beneficial for the financial security of senior citizens.

Mr. Ashish Siswal, Faculty of Psychology conducted a counselling session to understand their cognitive impairment due to old age. Mr. Sumanto Sen shared information about the ongoing schemes at the Pragya Center. Some of the senior citizens present also shared their experiences.

At the end of the program, certificates were distributed to all senior citizens for their active participation.
