On June 5th, 2024, the global community came together to celebrate World Environment Day, emphasizing the collective responsibility we share in nurturing and protecting our planet. Recognizing the urgent need for environmental conservation, the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), in coordination with the office of the Ld. Principal District & Sessions Judge, Rouse Avenue Courts and Central-II DLSA, organized a meaningful plantation drive at the Rouse Avenue Courts Complex, New Delhi.

A Commitment to the Environment:

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Justice Manmohan, Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Delhi & Executive Chairperson of DSLSA. In a symbolic act of commitment to the environment, Justice Manmohan planted the first sapling, setting a hopeful and proactive tone for the day's activities. Following his lead, Justice Prateek Jalan, Judge, High Court of Delhi & Member of the Building Maintenance & Construction Committee (BMCC) at Rouse Avenue Courts, participated by planting a sapling. Joining him were Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma and Justice Saurabh Banerjee, Judges of the High Court of Delhi and Members of the BMCC, who further contributed to the plantation drive with their active involvement. In addition to his participation at Rouse Avenue Court Complex, Justice Saurabh Banerjee also extended his environmental commitment by visiting the Saket District Court Complex to plant more saplings, reinforcing the day's message of widespread environmental stewardship.

Ms. Anju Bajaj Chandna, Ld. Principal District & Sessions Judge cum-Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI) at Rouse Avenue Courts, also took part in the green initiative by planting saplings. The event was organized by Sh. Naveen Gupta, Ld. Special Secretary, DSLSA, Sh. Mridul Gupta, Ld.

Additional Secretary, DSLSA, Sh. Abhinav Pandey, Ld. Secretary (Litigation), DSLSA, along with Ld. Secretaries of all DLSAs, reinforcing the collective commitment of the legal community to environmental sustainability. Additionally, all DLSAs organized plantation drives in their respective districts, under the leadership of the Ld. Principal District & Sessions Judge of each district.

Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee (DHCLSC)'s Green Initiative at Delhi High Court:

To infuse this year's theme of World Environment Day, Justice Rajiv Shakdher, Judge, High Court of Delhi and Chairman, DHCLSC, planted saplings within the Delhi High Court premises. He was accompanied by Sh. Arul Varma, Ld. Additional District & Sessions Judge and Secretary, DHCLSC, who also planted saplings.

This plantation drive serves as a reminder of the significant role each individual and institution plays in fostering a healthier and greener planet. As we reflect on our actions and their impact on the environment, events like this highlight the importance of collaborative efforts in building a sustainable future.
