South Zonal Round Of 'Amiquiz Curiae' National Legal Quiz Held

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution, a unique legal quiz, AmiQuiz Curiae, was flagged off. This event, designed specifically for lawyers, was aimed at exploring the Indian Constitution and law through the lens of history, culture, films, art, jurisprudence, literature, and technology. The quiz served as a platform for intellectual engagement and healthy competition within the legal fraternity.

The quiz is comprised of the following rounds.

  • 30th November & 1st December 2024– Online preliminary rounds.
  • 14th December 2024South Zone at MS Ramaiah College of Law, Bengaluru.
  • 12th January 2025East Zone + Northeastern Zone at The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata.
  • 19th JanuaryWest Zone at Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai.
  • 16th FebruaryNorth + Central Zone at The Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi.
  • 2nd March- Grand Finale at New Delhi.

The quiz is sponsored by the following senior advocates of the country Arvind Datar, Chander Uday Singh, Dama Seshadri Naidu, Huzefa Ahmadi, Jaideep Gupta, Madhavi Divan, Meenakshi Arora, Nakul Dewan, Raju Ramachandran, Rana Mukherjee, Rebecca John, Sanjay Hegde, Siddharth Luthra, and S. Muralidhar.

The South Zonal Round of AmiQuiz Curiae was held on Saturday, 14th December 2024 at Ramaiah College of Law, Bengaluru. As a remarkable celebration of the Indian Constitution, marking 75 years since its adoption, the event brought together legal professionals and enthusiasts to honor this historic milestone through an engaging blend of intellect, creativity, and collaboration.

The occasion was graced by the august presence of Justice Kameswar Rao and Justice Suraj Govindraj, Judges of the High Court of Karnataka, alongside Dr S. Muralidhar, Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India, whose presence added immense stature to the event. Their words of encouragement resonated with the participants and spectators, underscoring the importance of constitutional values in contemporary legal practice.

 

While legal professionals took the spotlight as participants, students engaged as enthusiastic spectators, gaining inspiration and insight throughout the event. Questions revolved around Law, Constitution seen from the lens of movies, history, culture, literature and so on. Some interesting questions from the finals included: (Answers at end of the article)

 The South Zonal Round saw fierce competition among participants and the winners were the team comprising Adv. Raghuram Cadambi, Mr. Pranav Ravikumar, and Mr. Deepak Bhaskar. While the runners-up were the team comprising Adv. Jis Sebastian, Mr. Harris Abdul Salam, and Adv. Ramakrishnan MN. They have earned the opportunity to represent the South Zone at the National Round to be held on 2nd March 2025, in Delhi.

 

As the event concluded, Prof. Umamahesh Sathyanarayan, Principal of Ramaiah College of Law, and Hon'ble Justices Kameswar Rao and Suraj Govindraj of the Karnataka High Court emphasized staying updated with legal developments, making connections, and engaging in activities to sharpen legal acumen.

Dr. S. Muralidhar, Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court and Former Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, highlighted the importance of lifelong learning in the legal profession. He encouraged lawyers and students to read extensively—from newspaper editorials to books across genres—to stay informed about history and current affairs.




 


A special highlight of the event was the screen printing of the Preamble by Reclaim Constitution, a Bangalore-based citizens' collective, committed to fostering a constitutional culture.

The participants, spectators, and distinguished guests left with a renewed sense of admiration for the Constitution and its legacy. The next leg of the quiz will be in Kolkata for the East Zone + Northeastern Zone on 12th January 2025 –at The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS).
