The Delhi High Court, on Monday, expressed grave concern over the safety and security of woman judicial officers of the subordinate judiciary, after it was apprised of the alleged attempt to abduct a woman judicial officer.
High Court Registrar General Dinesh Kumar Sharma reportedly told PTI that the cab driver allegedly change the route when the woman Judge was travelling from Rajinder Nagar in Central Delhi to Karkardooma Court. The crisis was averted after the Judge raised an alarm and the vehicle was stopped. An FIR has since been lodged against the cab driver, he said.
Taking note of the incident, the High Court has now asked the Government to consider providing separate vehicles to Judges whose security is "paramount" and has urged the State to take steps for preventing any such incidents from happening again.
Currently, private vehicles are hired by the judiciary through tendering and the payment is sanctioned by the Delhi Government. However, after this incident, administrative direction has reportedly been received by the High Court to provide separate Court vehicles to woman Judicial Officers from Tuesday.
