[NLAT LIVE] Hearing On Plea Against NLSIU's NLAT2020 [LIve-Updates From Supreme Court]
Datar: They say Allegations of a "zero year" is a bogus claim, many important stakeholders have said that the zero-year can be attracted due to non-conduct of exam. We are a BALLB course, we conducted 3+3 years in 5 years.
Justice Shah: Due to shortage of time, they were deprived of the opportunity to apply for the examination.
Datar: The students had 9 days to apply, more than enough time to do so.
Datar: Now, even the number of questions were reduced in the 45 minutes exam.
Justice Reddy: Why only some 20000 students appeared, even though its the top law school?
Justice Shah (in a lighter vein) : You have already crossed the 1 hour. Now even the exam time was 45 minutes.
Datar: I'll only ask my lords to dismiss the plea(s) then!
Datar: When Mr. Sankaranarayan said students bought tickets for cricket & watched football is wrong. It was more of "ODI over a test match".
Justice Bhushan: Students prepared for 2 hours examination (CLAT) and then you made it into 45 minutes and you did this at the last minute.
Datar: When CLAT was further postponed, we had a faculty meeting to consider what actions can be taken, options before us were either we conduct an online entrance exam at centres identified across the country or a home based proctored online exam.
Datar: Affidavit in Delhi HC against home-based exam was for basis of #CLAT as it involved 80,000 students.
Justice Bhushan: But your EC never said you have to hold a separate exam. They only delegated the power to you to take a decision.
Justice Shah: You have admitted that here is a paper leak and you will take measures.
Datar: Yes I lodged an FIR also.
Datar: Regarding the purity of exam, i want to make submissions.
Justice Bhushan: No doubt about that you must have taken your steps.
Justice Shah: But you have admitted yourself that there were malpractices.
