[Live Updates From SC] Hearing On Petitions Challenging Citizenship (Amendment) Act
In Assam there is a unique problem because of Bangladesh. Earlier the date was 1950, then it was extended to 1971. The extension is challenged before this court. It's referred to larger bench. - Vikas Singh.
Vikas Singh- Initially the cut off date was 1948.
Assam was a unique situation, so it was extended to 1971.
Vikas Singh- there are 3 Assam petitions, 2 have been served. They all raise the same concern.
AG asks for the case numbers. They are being given.
AG says that Assam petitions not served on Union.
CJI says that no ex-parte order will be passed without serving copy.

Senior Advocate AM Singhvi mentions that many states have started NPR process.
Senior Adv Vikas Singh presses for an interim order, saying that #CAA violates Assam Accord.
Sibal - Kindly postpone the (NPR)process for 3 months. In the meanwhile your lordships can decide.
Sibal says that NPR process will start in April. So urges the Court to do something before that.
AG submits that counter affidavits in these matters are ready.
AG- There are 140 petitions out of which UoI have been served with 60 of them.
