Justice HS Bedi, former Supreme Court Judge passed away on November 21, Thursday. 

Born on September 5, 1946, Justice Bedi served as a Supreme Court judge from 12 January, 2007- September 5, 2011. Justice Bedi's son Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi is presently serving a judge in Punjab and Haryana High Court. 

The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association circulated a message stating : 

"With profound grief and sorrow, it is to inform that Hon'ble Mr. Justice H.S. Bedi [Former Judge of Supreme Court of India, Former Chief Justice of High Court of Bombay and Former Acting Chief Justice of this High Court] father of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi, has left for his heavenly abode,"  

The cremation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday in Chandigarh. The Bar Association also announced that to honor the late Judge, lawyers would abstain from work after 1 PM on Friday. 

Before his elevation to the Supreme Court, Justice Bedi served as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, after his elevation to judgeship in Punjab and Haryana High Court. 

In 2012, the Supreme Court had appointed Justice Bedi as Chairman of the Monitoring Committee to monitor the investigation carried out by the Special Task Force(STF) constituted by the Gujarat government to investigate the cases of custodial deaths.

In 2019, Justice Bedi submitted his report, finding foul play in three cases and recommending action against some officers.
