The organiser of CLAT 2016 – Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala’s alleged reply to an RTI query dated 05.02.2016 relating to the curfew timings has caused a furore in the RGNUL campus. Apparently, this reply is in stark contradiction to the Law University’s own circular dated 02.03.2016 wherein it is clearly stated that the curfew timings for girls has been revised from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Live Law has gained access to two of these documents-the first one being an RTI query replied to by the administration of RGNUL Patiala, and the second being University’s Notice dated 02.03.2016 which contradicts the reply sent by the University.
The RTI query served upon the administration of RGNUL Patiala consisted of a total of four questions, with the last query being,”Is there any curfew timing in RGNUL? If yes, is curfew timing in the University campus same for boys and girls? If no, why?”
To this question, the administration had replied that,”There is no curfew timing in RGNUL.”
The List of queries along with their replies can be accessed here.
However, an earlier Notice issued by the administration of RGNUL, Patiala had stated, “According to the aforementioned Notice dated 02-03-2016, the curfew timings for the girls to be in hostel in the evening, is revised from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, for strict adherence. However, the in time of Campus at main gate shall remain to be by 7:00 PM only,” The Notice can be accessed here.”
It is shameful for a law University of such stature to have misrepresented the facts under the Right to Information Act, 2005.
