Senior Advocate Deepinder Singh Patwalia has been appointed as the new Advocate General of Punjab.

This comes days after Senior Advocate Amar Preet Singh Deol resigned from the post of AG and his resignation was accepted by the Punjab Chief Minister, Charanjit Singh Channi.

A notification in this regard was issued today and which reads thus:

"The Governor of Punjab in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 165 of the Constitution of India, is pleased to appoint Sh Deepinder Singh Patwalia, Senior Advocate, Punjab and Haryana High Court...as Advocate General for the state of Punjab with effect from the date he assumes charges of his office."

Senior Advocate Amar Preet Singh Deol was appointed as the new Advocate General of Punjab following Senior Advocate Atul Nanda resigned from the post of AG on September 18 citing constitutional convention and highlighting that his appointment was co-terminus with the chief minister's appointment.

Patwalia has been practising on the Constitutional side and has also dealt with service and criminal matters.

He is the son of ex-Supreme Court judge Justice Kuldeep Singh. His mother served as the Principal of Mohali Rajkiya Mahila College. Patwalia obtained LLB degree from Panjab University in the year 1998.
