The Common Law Admission Test 2020 (CLAT 2020) is scheduled to be held on August 22, 2020.
Further, the last date for application has been extended till July 10.
The decision to this effect was taken by the Executive Committee of the Consortium of National Law Universities in a meeting held yesterday.
After reviewing the impact of the lockdowns and other restrictions arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Committee has decided that the examination will be held on the above mentioned date, through a "computer-based, online, centre-based" test.
The notification intimating the same states,
"an off-line test, as initially contemplated, would require large scale movement of students to limited centres, and significant logistics in the handling of question papers and answer scripts, which is not possible during the prevalent pandemic conditions. Further, an on-line test at home with technological measures cannot ensure transparency, fairness and integrity of a high stakes examination process or maintain equitable access to necessary facilities. Hence, the EC concluded that an on-line test at a large number of centres compliant with physical distancing and public health safety prescriptions is in the best interests of the health and safety of candidates and test administrators."
The full list of examination centres for the CLAT 2020 will be notified to all candidates on July 1, 2020 and the Consortium will issue detailed guidance with respect to the protocols and modalities of the computer-based, online, centre-based mechanism.
The exam was originally going to be held on May 10, and was initially postponed to May 24. However, due to the extension of the national lockdown, it was yet again scheduled to be held on June 21.
However, in a meeting of the Consortium held last month, it was decided that the exam will be further postponed and a fresh date would be intimated by July 1.
