Maharashtra State Cabinet approves the establishment of National Law School in Nagpur

After a prolonged wait the Maharashtra state government finally gave the nod to establish a National Law School in Nagpur. The national law school will be named as “Maharashtra National Law School”, reports TOI.

Earlier there was uncertainty as to where the National Law School would be built and, Mumbai, Aurangabad and Nagpur were the three main places considered for housing the law school. Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Rajesh Tope said that, the Cabinet has allocated a budget of Rs 125 crore for the law school. He added, the admissions will be done through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and the intake would be 100.

Former High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Anil Mardikar expressing his contentment over the news said that, "It's obviously good news and we're happy that our long struggle is finally reaping the fruits. Let's hope that it will help in wiping out some deficit in terms of the development from the part of government towards this region.” Lawyer Srikant Khandalkar, the petitioner in the Bombay High Court case for establishment of  National Law School said, this will help law aspirants in the city in the big way.
