Final year five-year integrated BA (criminology) LLB students of GLC Ernakulam can enrol: BCI
Their dreams to become eminent lawyers, which suffered a temporary setback due to confusion regarding the approval of BA Criminology Course, has now been rekindled as the Bar Council of India has now agreed to allow the 80 final year students of Government Law College Ernakulam to be enrolled as Advocates.
Earlier, Bar Council of India’s show cause to Mahatma Gandhi University stating that that five-year integrated LLB (honors) with BA in Criminology is not recognised by it, had come as a shocker to the students who spent five years in the College aspiring to wear Advocate robes. Now, it is being reported in TOI that, BCI's Legal Education Committee has in principle agreed to enrol only the final year students with BCI after completion of the course. Rest of the students will have to study an additional social science paper to complete the course.
The Bar Council has also reportedly imposed a fine of Rupees 10 Lakhs on the MG University and the University will have to revise the LLB (honors) with BA in Criminology from this academic year.
