Ukraine v. Russia : International Court Of Justice Concludes Hearing Ukraine's Application; Russia Refuses To Appear [LIVE UPDATES]
Ukraine: In Cambodia v Thailand, in 2011 the Court issued an order on provisional measures fifty years after the operative judgment directing both parties shall immediately withdraw their military personnel currently present in the provisional demilitarised zone.
Ukraine: Again this is not unprecedented. The Court has regularly given directions to parties regarding the movements of armed personnel in ongoing military operations.
Ukraine: There should also be no doubt that no act in this war is lawful or authorized by the Genocide Convention. So the only way to preserve the status quo, protect Ukraine's rights is to order a complete suspension of #Russia's military operations.
Ukraine: Recently in Gambia v Myanmar, the Court's extended similar relief to not only members of the Respondent State and military but also to the same group of other actors.
Ukraine: Ukraine requests that #Russia should immediately ensure any military or armed units which may be directed or supported by it as well as any organization/persons controlled by it to take no steps in furtherance of the military operation.
Ukraine: The Court ordered similar relief in Congo v Uganda declaring that both parties must forwith take all measures to comply with their obligations under international law particularly those under the UN Charter.
Ukraine: The right to sovereignty and independence possessed by #Ukraine like any other State in the world should be fully respected and should not in any way be jeopardized by any military or paramilitary activities which are prohibited by principles of international law.
Ukraine: As hard is it to believe, President Putin alerting Russian nuclear forces has placed the entire world in the jeopardy of strategic miscalculation by an increasingly out of touch Russian leadership.
Ukraine: A nuclear or other environmental accidents triggered by the Russian military action would have consequences beyond the region.
Ukraine: The fragility of the situation reaches beyond Ukraine into Europe and across the world. Neighbouring countries may well be destabilized by the resulting humanitarian crisis as the conflict reaches its next stage.
