[Prashant Bhushan Contempt Case Over Two Tweets] LIVE UPDATES From Supreme Court
Justice Mishra says the bench will come back after 30 minutes and asks Dhavan and Bhushan to "think over".
AG : There is nothing more I can say. It is for Dhavan and his client to say what exactly they want. I have nothing more to add.
Justice Mishra : Your advise is welcome. But he should withdraw his allegations.
AG : Yes, he should withdraw his allegations too.
AG : He (Bhushan) has not hesitated to say that he has greatest respect for this court. In 2009 case, he has expressed regret. Likewise, if he expresses regret in this, that should be an end to this unfortunate case.
Justice Mishra : You may have different opinion about a judgment, but you cannot blame the judges.
AG : If there is an expression of regret, and if the affidavit is withdrawn, perhaps the case can be dropped.
Justice Mishra : How can the affidavit be withdrawn when they insist that it should be considered?
The bench is now referring to the averments made by Bhushan in his reply affidavit.
Can those allegations be construed as defence? Justice Mishra asks the AG.
AG : Your lordships have held in Arundhati Roy's case that 'our shoulders are broad enough to shrug off' comments against it.
AG says that Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan, as Bhushan's counsel, will be a better person to make submissions on that.
AG : It is not too late for him(Bhushan) to express regret like he did in the case in which he had alleged corruption.
