The Chief Justice of India has nominated five advocates as Supreme Court Legal Services Committee members. The National Legal Services Authority, through its notification dated December 23, 2023, has notified the membership of the following advocates based on the nomination by the CJI :

  1. Senior Advocate Vibha Datta Makhija;
  2. Senior Advocate Siddhartha Dave;
  3. Senior Advocate Aparajita Singh;
  4. Advocate Mohammad Shoeb Alam and
  5. Advocate K. Parameshwar Krishnaswamy

NALSA was created as per the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of society. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is the Patron-in-Chief of the NALSA.

With the purpose of providing free legal aid to the persons, the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) was constituted to approach the Supreme Court. Section 3A of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, confers power on the Central Authority to constitute SCLSC for performing such functions as may be determined by the Central Authority. Recently, the central authority nominated Justice BR Gavai as the Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.
