AG : When govt came to be intimated of the sensitivity of the issue, we said we will constitute a high level committee, consisting of various persons, and said we will examine the judgments of the courts and until then we communicated to maintain status quo.
AG reads from the communication to the Director: Issues which were so far not there are being raked up and this is not good for the continuation of the education.
AG: Kindly see the tenor of the meeting, parents of the students were called. They were informed that uniform system is there since 1985. After the meeting, it did not help, I am told that they continue to protest. This led to communication being made by State to Director
AG reads the CDC resolution: Since 1985, uniforms have been worn by the students. It was decided in the meeting to conduct classed as per the previous system until further orders by Director of PU Department.
AG: From Dec 31, this incident happened when some girls approached the principal and said they would enter college only wearing a hijab. When this insistence took place CDC wanted to examine. The CDC was chaired by MLA on 01.01.2022.
AG : There was uniform prescribed in 2018. There was no difficulty till December 2021, when a group of students, possibly petitioners, approached the principal & insisted that they will enter the college with Hijab.
CJ : This is a co-ed college?
AG : It is an all-girls college.
AG: What is the object behind CDC I will be able to explain when I come to the legality of GO. I want to explain the concept of uniform.
AG refers to a resolution of 2013.
AG : I will come to the College Development Committee.
AG reads the Circular issued by the government in 2014 constituting the CDC.
AG: Prescription of uniform was there in this institution in 2013.
Justice Dixit : What is the sanctity of the College Development Committee under the scheme of the Act?
AG: I am only trying to persuade that the prescription of uniform has been made since some time.
