The Supreme Court will continue hearing today the petition filed by former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren challenging his arrest by the Enfrocement Directorate (ED). He has sought for interim bail in view of the ongoing election campaigning.
A vacation bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma is hearing the matter. Yesterday, the bench had asked if the Court can interfere with the arrest once the trial court has taken cognizance of the complaint and has rejected the regular bail application of the accused.

J Datta: The authorities don't come within time but they say we work less? The judges are not before us, how can they explain
Sibal: But see the impact on citizen, that's all. It's very sad!
Hearing ends
J Datta: Since they are part of governance, we would expect that atleast in one matter filed by the Union of India or by a state, the appeal come within time. Every matter there is a condonation of delay
J Datta: We hardly come across a matter which is filed within time. So let those persons who cascade the judiciary stop these things.
Sibal: This is the most over worked court...among all countries in the world. No judge works as hard as this.
J Datta: It is unfortunate Mr Sibal that despite putting in so many hours...we have to hear that judges work for very few hours
J Sharma: There was a big article last week
J Datta: We are burning midnight oil, what are we doing here in vacations?
J Sharma: I was in 4 HCs, where such matters are decided on top priority
Sibal: The proof of the pudding is in the eating and we are eating it every day
J Datta: We can only express our hope
Sibal: Nobody hears our matter, nobody decides it. And personal liberties...
Sibal: this aside, please see if I file a bail application, it is decided after a month
J Datta: It becomes very difficult for us to regulate the business of High Courts
Sibal: Elections will be over. I never expected this to come in the way...
J Datta: What option?
Sibal: Better to withdraw
Sibal: Please have the first petition on record
J Datta: We are not inclined to interfere. SLP is dismissed. Writ petitioner has not approached with clean hands
Sibal: That's worse. Let me withdraw
J Datta: You have to convince us on cognizance
Sibal: All I would like to say is, I disclosed the issue of cognizance
J Datta: We would like to close the proceedings
