Farmers Protest : Supreme Court Proposes To Stay Implementation Of Farm Laws- Live Updates
Dushyant Dave : If government is really serious, the government can convene a joint session of Parliament to discuss this. I don't know why govt is not doing that.
CJI : Mr. Narasimha, you don't understand. We asked before vacations if they will put the laws on hold. They have not yet responded.
Narasimha : Solutions for such problems don't come quick. Give a breather.
CJI : Who will be responsible if any bloodshed happens?
Narasimha : Your lordships have made very serious statements today. Your lordships don't pass any order today. Adjourn the matter. Give breathing time for constitutional authorities to deal the matter.
CJI : Mr.Narasimha, even if your argument is valid, it does not help the situation which is on ground now.
Sr Adv PS Narasimha for an intervenor says that there are many other farmers organizations which see the laws as beneficial. The Court does not have their perspective, he says.
CJ to AG : Mr. Venugopal, we don't want to repeat the criticism. But we don't believe that you have been effective in handling the situation.
AG : The farmers must tells us what hurts them.
CJI : They will tell the committee.
Dave : Mr Attorney must tell this Court how these laws were passed in Rajya Sabha in a voice vote. Every body knows what happened. What happened in Rajya Sabha is very disturbing.
Dave : Farmers wanted to go to Ramlila maidan. The Government did not allow that. I don't understand the stand of the govt. It is a place where Vajpayee, JP etc have held historic protests.
AG wants Dave's statement regarding no tractor rally on Republic day to be recorded.
Dave : Farmers never said they will disrupt Republic Day. They said their families have at least one member in the Army and they respect Republic Day.
CJI : Staying the implementation of laws and staying the law are different.
AG : That amounts to the same thing.
CJI : We can always stay executive action under a law.
