CJI: What was the police doing from 4th to 18th? An incident came to light that women are being paraded naked- atleast 2 were raped. What was the police doing?
SG Mehta: The FIR which was registered as a zero FIR didn't have details and there were several such FIRs
CJI: How many FIRs?
SG Mehta: 20 in this police station. Total are 6000 in the State.
CJI DY Chandrachud: Is it correct that the FIR was registered on 18th May?
Pasha: That's correct.
SG Mehta: It's true that the FIR was registered on 18th May.
AG: Let me come back tomorrow and present a picture as to what happened - in a sequential way...
CJI DY Chandrachud: In this case, incident took place on 4th May - where these women were paraded. When was the FIR registered?
AG: I will come back with all sequence of events, with all information available.
AG: The range of circumstances in the case is wide. Every case has special feature. I'm not against court ordering SIT. I'm saying let me gather all information and find out what is the best way out...the state should also have a role. To say only civil society will have a role..
AG: All of us our engaged in a very complex engagement. If someone has to analyse the situation in Manipur not only from point of view of crimes committed, you can provide a linear point - if someone sees why it's happening - there is a landmine of issues.
The court resumes the hearing.
The court takes a 20 min break. Hearings to continue post the break.
Swaraj: All pan India daughters have to protected. There have been instances in Bikaner, in West Bengal... it's not just Manipur.
CJI DY Chandrachud: Are you saying protect all women or don't protect anyone?
