The Sikkim High Court on Friday at 12:30 PM held a Full Court reference to condole the demise of Former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court Justice Ripusudan Dayal. 

Justice Dayal passed away on 8th January. 

Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court Justice Biswanth Somadder made his obituary reference at the proceedings. 

Additional Advocate General for the State of Sikkim Dr Doma T. Bhutia and Senior Advocate A Moulik also made their obituary references from the Bar during the proceedings. 

The family members of Justice Dayal also attended the Full Court reference through video-conferencing and two minutes of silence was observed as a mark of respect for the departed soul. 

Justice Dayal had enrolled as an Advocate in 1962 and practised at the Bar till joining the judicial service in 1966. He was appointed as a Judge of Sikkim High Court in 1984 and also served as a Judge in Allahabad and Calcutta High Courts. 

Prior to that, he worked as Munsif in the State of Uttar Pradesh from 1966 to 1971 and Sub-Judge First Class, Delhi, then as Additional Judge, Small Cause Court, Delhi from September 1975, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi from September 1977 and Judge Insolvent’s Estate Court, Delhi and Guardian Judge. He was appointed Additional and District Sessions Judge, Delhi in 1979 and from 1980 he worked as Commissioner, of Payments in the Ministry of Commerce under the Sick Textiles Undertakings (Nationalisation) Act, 1974.

Justice Dayal was appointed as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court on February 3rd 1999 and retired on 17th May 2003.
