The Supreme Court Bar Association has written to CJI NV Ramana highlighting issues that require his immediate attention.

It is the case of the Association that despite writing to the Supreme Court on various instances, no action has been taken till today.

First and foremost its is submitted that as the number of Covid-19 cases in Delhi/NCR have reduced considerably, physical hearings should be resumed fully.

Stating that the system of issuing special passes for high security areas should be dispensed with, the Association seeks entry to high- security area by using a proximity card. It is added that the waiting areas were to get full, the lawyers could be asked to wait in the corridor, which is an open space where minimal restrictions are required.

The Bar Association also calls for a Full Court Meeting to clear the applications for Senior Designation that have been pending since 2018.

It is further sought that a seniority list may be prepared so that the newly constructed chambers at the Appu Ghar Complex may be allotted accordingly and the facilities present in the complex be made available to it free of cost. The letter adds that construction of lawyers' chambers on the land allotted to the Supreme Court of India behind the petrol pump near ITO may also be expedited.

The SCBA also seeks allocation of additional space to it by relocating the offices of the Registry in the Annexe building, for constructing an office of its President, office of the Secretary as well as a Committee Room, a library and a lunch room for the members of the Bar.

The letter adds that a list of meritorious Supreme Court practitioners as identified by the "Search Committee" was sent to the CJI for consideration. It is thus prayed that the names so suggested shall be considered by the respective High Court Collegiums along with the lawyers from the High Court Bar for the purpose of elevation.

It is thus sought that these concerns will be addressed by the Chief Justice and an audience be given to the Executive Committee of SCBA to discuss the same at the earliest.
