A court in Bengaluru on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant against former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in connection with a POCSO case registered against him.

The warrant was issued based on the application filed by CID which is probing the case registered under section 8 of the POCSO Act read with section 354 (A) of the Indian Penal Code.

Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Naik argued that the accused is not appearing before the investigating agency even after being served with a notice to appear. Further, the accused is a high-profile man and has been the Chief Minister of the State four times, one of his sons is a Member of Parliament, it was stated.

Taking into consideration the submission the court of Additional City Civil and Session Court Judge N M Ramesh allowed the application and issued the warrant.

As per the complaint filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl, it was alleged that the accused allegedly sexually assaulted her daughter during a meeting in February, at his residence in Bengaluru. On March 14, the Sadashivanagar police registered the case, later it was transferred to CID for further investigation which re-registered the FIR.

Yediyurappa has approached the high court seeking to quash the case claiming that it is a concocted effort to falsely implicate the accused. A perusal of the complaint would demonstrate that there are no allegations forthcoming of sexual assault against him. The matter is likely to be heard on Friday.
