NALSAR: Capital Foundation Annual Lecture And Award Function

The Capital Foundation Annual Lecture and Awards Function was held at 4 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.

The Chancellor of NALSAR, Justice Alok Aradhe, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour along with the Minister for Irrigation & CAD, Food & Civil Supplies of Telangana, Sri Nalamada Uttam Kumar Reddy, who was the Chief Guest. Justice A. K. Patnaik, former judge of the Supreme Court of India and Chairman of the Capital Foundation Society, presided over the event and delivered the welcome address.

Following Justice Patnaik, the Attorney General of India, Dr. R. Venkataramani, delivered the Capital Foundation Annual Lecture on "Technology, Law, and Humanity". In his thought-provoking lecture, the Attorney General explored the law and its ability to deal with the immensity of the complex web of future technologies. He argued that the legal fraternity has a huge task on hand to study and handle the totalizing effect of technology in our lives. He pointed out that we need to talk about the prudence and precautions entailed in regulating technology, the legitimacy of regulation, the effectiveness of regulation, and enacting the necessary connections between societal needs and societal services.

Following the lecture, the Minister presented the Capital Foundation Awards to eleven recipients, namely:

  1. Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice, Telangana High Court, who was given the Justice J. S. Verma National Award.
  1. Justice Indira Banerjee, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, who was given Justice Dipankar Prasad Gupta Solicitor General of India National Award.
  1. Justice Ajay Lamba, Former Chief Justice, Guwahati High Court, who was given the Justice P. N. Bhagwati National Award.
  1. Professor Goverdhan Mehta, Distinguished Professor, University of Hyderabad, who was given the Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Award.
  1. Mr. Parag P. Tripathi, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, who was given the K .K. Venugopal Attorney General National Award.
  1. Shri S. S. Naganand, Vice-President, Bar Association of India and LAWASIA, who was given the Attorney General K. Parasaran National Award.
  1. Mr. Dileep Reddy, Senior Journalist, who was given the N. Narottam Reddy National Award.
  1. Dr. Allani Kishan Rao, Activist of Healthcare and Environmental Justice, who was given the Environment and Healthcare National Award.
  1. Dr. K. Thulsi Rao, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Retd.) and Director, Global Biodiversity Solutions Pvt. Ltd., who was given the Environmental Protection National Award.
  1. Dr. Narsimha Reddy Donthi, Researcher, Campaigner and an Environmental Justice Activist, who was given the Dr. Shivaji Rao Award.
  1. Professor Ramineni Sivarama Prasad, Former Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, Acharya Nagarjuna University, who was given the Capital Foundation National Award.

After the presentation of awards, Minister, Uttam Kumar Reddy addressed the audience and then launched the four-month basic online course on the Indian Constitution in Telugu designed by NALSAR.

Following the launch of the course, the Chancellor of NALSAR released Smt. Shridevi Muralidhar's Telugu translation of Justice Leila Seth's We, the Children of India: The Preamble of our Constitution, published by EMESCO Books.
