Law School, Banaras Hindu University: Alumni Meet Workshop held on 6th August, 2017

Law Faculty, BHU witnessed a historic moment on August 6, 2017 when more than 200 of its alumnus gathered under one roof for the first time in the campus of Law School BHU.

The alumni meet workshop started with the inaugural ceremony at 10.00 a.m. Thereafter it was carried forward by Mr. Arvind Kr. Mishra, ADJ, Kanpur district, Prof. S.K. Gupta (Head of Legal Aid and Services Clinic).

The famous dignitaries included:



  • Omprakash Srivastava (Chief Information Commissioner, Bihar)

  • Ambika Chaudhary (MLC)

  • B. C Nirmal

  • Siddh Vidya (lawyer, Bombay HC)

  • M. C. Bijawat

  • G.P. Verma

  • Sharmistha Sharma

  • Abha Trivedi

  • D. K. Sharma (Head and Dean of Law School, BHU)

  • Pradeep Rai (Senior advocate,SC)

  • Surabhi Rai (Managing editor of APN channel).


The dignitaries were honoured by giving basil plant, rudraksha mala, book, and a momento.

Mr. Ambika Choudhary mentioned that BHU is a pilgrimage for him and Law school is its sanctum sanctorum. Mr. Choudhary emphasized on clinical legal education programme and told as to how it was first started at two places all over India- one in BHU and the other in Pune.

Mrs. Sharmistha Sharma (aged 85 yrs) shared her college experiences and promised to contribute to the society in whatever way possible, stressing on the education of poor girl students. She promised to incur the financial expenses of the needy girls if required.

Prof. M. C. Bijawat (aged 85 yrs),an alumni of BHU and studied from Yale University; currently teaching in 5 year law course stressed on the current challenges in the field of law. Also, he guaranteed that the 5 year law students are much better equipped with the technology and their knowledge and wisdom is far better compared to other law courses students.

Prof. V. C. Nirmal said that the students, who set their goal beforehand and study whole heartedly for 5 years, surely achieve success. He stressed on the need of the hour i. e. lack of skilled teachers.

Prof. D. K. Sharma expressed his desire to give the alumni meet the shape of international alumni meet the next time.

Prof. Vibha Tripathi stressing on girls education, threw light on the very important fact that only the girls who possess the ability to change the world, pursue law.

Many other alumni also shared their experiences and the fact that the head of APN channel and a newly practicing lawyer were sitting under the same roof makes BHU great.

Mr. Pradeep Rai and Mrs. Surbhi Rai gifted cyber library to the law school. Also, they conducted an interactive session which was being live telecasted on APN channel.

The entire alumnus was honored with a momento. A group photograph session was conducted and the workshop had a food arrangement. The workshop also had a book stall put on by Ashwini Upadhyay from Allahabad consisting of books from notable authors.

The workshop ended with a very entertaining cultural programme.
