A Chennai Court on June 13, 2022, directed the registration of an FIR against Mr. Suresh Kumar Gunasekaran and Mr. George Sargunaraj Christopher, the founders of "PEPUL", a fast-growing social networking Application recently launched in India. Reportedly, a lot of political and other renowned personalities have made investments towards the development of the said app. It is believed that daughter of a South-Indian superstar is also one of the investors in the said app. The FIR was directed to be registered on the complaint of a US-based NRI working for a well-known software giant. It is his case that he was induced to invest an amount of Rupees One Crore in the project, i.e., "PEPUL" in the year 2019, when it was being initially developed. The founders of the said app promised a 10% equity holding in the company for his investment. However, no such equity was ever transferred to the complainant, despite the investment being made by him. Realizing that he has been cheated and deprived of his money without the said equity being allotted, a Police complaint was filed with Police Station- CCB, Chennai, which failed to investigate the matter. The complainant, sensing that there might be other NRIs cheated like him, approached the Court and the direction was given to register the FIR and investigate the matter.
The complainant was being represented by the office of Mr. S.V. Pravin Rathinam, instructed by the team from Karanjawala & Co. comprising of Mr. Samarjit Pattnaik- Partner, Mr. Puneet Relan- Principal Associate, Mr. Irfan Muzamil and Mr. Satyam Chaturvedi- Senior Associates.
