Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot submitted an "unconditional apology" to the Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday, in response to a PIL seeking contempt proceedings against him for his remarks on alleged corruption within the judiciary.

Gehlot, in his written submission, clarified that his comments expressing concerns over corruption in the judiciary had been distorted and misconstrued by a publication. The CM cited his law degree and emphasized that he had never encountered any corruption within the judiciary. He pointed out that several judges of the Supreme Court and high courts have expressed similar concerns in recent years.

Gehlot has requested the court to accept his apology and dismiss the PIL.

The PIL plea was filed by a Supreme Court advocate and former Judicial officer Shiv Charan Gupta claiming that the alleged statement of Gehlot amounted to scandalizing and lowering the image of the State Judiciary.

While speaking to the media on 30th August, Gehlot had said there is rampant corruption in judiciary and he has heard that a lot of lawyers write judgments and then they are pronounced.

A private complaint was also filed before a court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district concerning Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's remark alleging 'Rampant Corruption' in the Judiciary.

The case is scheduled for further proceedings on October 7.
