The Bar Council of Delhi has taken suo-moto cognizance of the firing incident that took place inside the Tis Hazari Courts premises earlier today and also suspended the license of a lawyer who was identified in a video that got viral on the social media.

The lawyer is the Senior Vice President of Delhi Bar Association.

Noting that various advocates were seen involved in “hurling abuses and firing in the air” in the video, the Bar Council of Delhi in its letter issued to the lawyer said:

“In the said video, you are clearly identifiable, whereas identification of other advocates involved is being carried out for taking appropriate actionYou being an advocate resorting to violence that too inside the court premises is highly deplorable and is gross misconduct.”

The letter further adds that the Chairman of the lawyers’ body, K.K. Manan, under the power vested with him under the Bar Council of Delhi Rules has suspended the lawyer’s licence to practice as an advocate with immediate effect.

As per the letter, the concerned lawyer has been called upon to submit his written explanation and also appear before the Bar Council of Delhi’s office on July 07.

It added that in case the lawyer fails to appear, an ex-parte action shall be initiated against him as deemed appropriate in accordance with law.
