“Forging Deeper Ties With The Indian Legal Community”: Georgetown University Law Center Delegation Concludes Weeklong Trip

A senior delegation from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., led by Dean William M. Treanor, visited India from December 2 to December 8 to connect with Indian law schools, law firms, Georgetown alumni, and senior members of the Indian judicial community in Delhi and Mumbai.

As per a press release, , Gene Finn, Associate Dean, and Justin Swinsick, Director, Graduate Studies, held extensive discussions with top law schools and law firms during the visit. The week-long trip concluded with the First Georgetown Law Dinner hosted at the Oberoi, New Delhi on December 8.

“This is the first among many to follow to forge deeper ties with the Indian legal community. The dinner was attended by members of the Indian Supreme Court and Delhi High Court. Arun Jaitley, Minister of Finance, Ravi Shanker Prasad, Minister of Law & Justice, Kapil Sibal, Mr. Maninder Singh, Additional Solicitor General, and Vibha Datta Makhija, a Georgetown alumni, also attended the select dinner,” the release said.

Beyond the Law Center, Georgetown has also forged a connection to India through the University's India Initiative. Founded in 2015 and led by Professor Irfan Nooruddin, the India Initiative seeks to advance research and teaching around India, and create a platform for high-level dialogue among American and Indian leaders from government, business, civil society, and the academy.

India has the second highest student population at Georgetown Law, just behind China.

“I am proud of Georgetown Law's deep ties with India's legal community, and I look forward to strengthening those relationships during my visits with our alumni, law schools and the India's justices,” Dean William Treanor said.
