Actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra have sent a defamation notice to actor Sherlyn Chopra seeking an apology and Rs. 50 cr in damages for "lewd, below the belt" remarks against them on public platforms.

The notice claims that the Chopra's allegations against Kundra and Shetty are "concocted, false, frivolous and baseless…made with an ulterior motive to defame and extort money" and punishable under sections 499, 550, 389 and 195(A), of the Indian Penal Code.

Kundra and Chopra are both accused in obscenity cases being investigated by the Maharashtra Police. Kundra was recently granted bail in one of the three cases.

The notice states that this is Chopra's attempt to absolve herself from the investigation against her.

Sent through Advocate Prashant Patil, the notice comes after allegations of sexual misconduct were recently levelled by Chopra against Kundra in an FIR regarding an incident from March 2021.

The 16-page legal notice seeks a public apology and Rs 50 crore within seven days.

"That, to my clients utter shock and dismay, for reasons best known to you, you have been indulging in passing lewd and unwarranted remarks through press conferences and posts upon social networking channels and social media such as facebook.com and twitter.com against my clients, thereby making fake allegations against my clients. …That, the press conference dated 14/10/2021, is nothing but an afterthought, to pressures and extort money from my clients," the notice states.

It alleges that Shilpa Shetty spoke to Chopra on 20 April, 2021 to inquire about the "truth behind the allegations." During the conversation, Chopra is alleged to have told her that the "entire complaint is a fake complaint," and was initiated at her lawyer's behest.

"You had also mentioned in the call that 'You are ashamed at yourself for filing a criminal complaint, against Mr. Raj Kundra…. and that you are withdrawing your complaint unconditionally". On 19 April, 2021, you…, apologized to my client Shilpa Shetty Kundra, and also withdrew the complaint, which you initiated against my client Raj Kundra," the notice states.

Regarding allegations about JL Stream App, the notice states that Kundra is the App's founder, where fans can meet, chat and view exclusive content from their favourite influencers. Chopra was one of the influencers on this App.

However, Shilpa Shetty Kundra is in no way connected/nor involved in the management of the JL Stream App. "That, you have been dragging Ms. Shilpa's name, in the press conference, with an ulterior motive, to defame Ms. Shilpa, gain TRP, attention and to create unwanted controversy," the notices states.

Finally, the notice mentions that the couple "reaffirm their respect" for Chopra "but that does not give any locus to you to carry out your ill motivated defamatory campaign against my clients. My clients through this notice makes it amply clear that they hold high respect for every woman on this planet and in his entire personal and social life, he has never ever disrespected any woman whether intentionally or unintentionally. However, the Constitution of this Country provides them the right to protect their dignity."
