A sessions court in Mumbai on Monday granted bail to designer Aniksha Jaisinghani, daughter of alleged bookie Anil Jaisinghani in the extortion and bribery complaint filed by the Deputy Chief Minister’s wife Amruta Fadnavis.
Sessions Judge DD Almale directed her to execute bail bond of Rs. 50,0000 and furnish sureties of the like amount.
Aniksha approached the court for bail after she was remanded in judicial custody on March 17.
Today the court remanded her father Anil Jaisinghani and uncle Nirmal in judicial custody following which he applied for bail. However, the Madhya Pradesh police has sought Jaisinghani’s custody in another case.
Fadnavis has alleged that Jaisinghani, a designer, attempted to bribe her with Rs 1 crore to seek her “intervention” in a criminal case involving Anil Jaisinghani, who is a bookie. The prosecution later booked them for extortion demands of Rs. 10 crore.
They have been booked for offences under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and Section 385 (extortion) of the IPC and sections 8 (inducement of a public servant using corrupt means) and 12 (abetment) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
It is the prosecution’s case that the accused were in touch with Fadnavis for over 16 months and there were certain “morphed photographs” Jaisinghani wanted to use for blackmail. The Malabar Hill police further alleged that threatening voice messages were sent to Fadnavis when she didn’t reciprocate.
