Extension of judicial custody is procedural, and the Bombay High Court will hear the bail applications of Khan, Mummun Dhamecha and Arbaaz Merchant on Tuesday, October 26.
The trio approached the HC after the special court rejected their bail pleas yesterday.
Regarding extension of remand, the accused were not produced in court physically owing to covid-19 protocols. But they were not produced from Arthur Road prison via video conferencing, either.
Special Judge VV Patil passed on an order based on the prosecution's remand application. "Accused not produced from prison. Judicial custody extended till October 30."
Khan and the seven others were arrested in the case on October 3 and produced before a magistrate. On October 7, the magistrate refused the Narcotics Control Bureau their further police custody and remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days.
The women accused came to be lodged in Byculla prison and men at Arthur Road prison. Meanwhile, the magistrate sent case papers to the Special NDPS Court, competent to hear such matters.
The accused whose judicial custody was extended are Aryan Shahrukh Khan, Munmun Dhamecha, Arbaaz Merchant, Nupur Satija, Mohak Jaswal, Ishmeet Chaddha, Gomit Chopra and Vikrant Chhokhar.On Thursday, the special NDPS Court also heard bail applications filed by guests onboard the ship, Manish Rajgaria and Avin Sahu. The court also heard Khan's alleged supplier Aachit Kumar's bail application.
Arguments on the bail pleas will continue tomorrow.
