The Bombay High Court has called for a report from Taloja prison Superintendent after it was informed that an alleged rapist with over 14 different matrimonial profiles, lodged in prison, was pressurising victims not to depose against him.

The complainant, a lawyer from Solapur submitted that prison officials forwarded the accused’s RTI applications to the police department through which he received her (victim’s) address and was also out to defame her.

Applicant herein has addressed several letters making several allegations against the victims and pressurising the witnesses not to depose against him… Call for the detailed report from the Superintendent of Taloja Central Prison, Navi Mumbai regarding the correspondence made by the Applicant while he is in jail,” Justice Anuja Prabhudessai said in the order.

Sachin Sambare aka Patil (38) was arrested by the Rabale Police, in Navi Mumbai, and booked under sections 313, 376 (2) (n), 417 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and section 66 (D) of The Information Technology Act, 2000. The investigation was subsequently transferred to the crime branch.

Sambare approached the High Court after his bail application was rejected by the Sessions Court.

The complainant represented by Advocate Prashant Pandey alleged that Sambare approached his client with his Bharat Matrimony profile on Facebook in 2018 despite being married with a child, established physical relations with her, and deceptively tried to abort their child using pills. The woman narrated how she suffered a great deal as her bleeding refused to stop. She finally tested positive for a pre-cancer condition called “chronic cervicitis with squamous metaplasia.”

She learned about a police constable’s 2013 cheating case against the accused. The woman was dumped after having undergone three abortions. The accused then got engaged to and re-married another woman and had a child with the lady by 2018.

The complainant claimed the man had sent marriage proposals to 805 Bharat Matrimony profile holders like her from his 12 profiles. He also had 2 profiles on Jeevan Saathi and two on Shaadi.com, investigators found.

She prayed for the entire details of his letter to be placed before the court, which was granted.
