The loss of someone close is always difficult to come to terms with.

Ram Mohan was a very dear friend.

I grew close to him more than two decades ago when he took a building on rent from me for his temporary residence in Kochi.

Yesterday, I sat in Court till 3.30 pm - the first time I sat so late after reopening - and when I returned to my Chambers, my PS mentioned Ram's name. Before I heard what she was telling me, under the impression that he had come to meet me after very long, I eagerly asked her to usher him in. My PS stared at me for a few seconds and then broke the horrible news.

Ram, with his ever unfading smile, lives on in the minds of many like me, who have had the privilege and honour of knowing him close.

Ram quietly touched our hearts with the positive light within him and this is what will remain with us forever.

Ram is one on whom the adjective "impeccable" would fit like not many others - a fine lawyer and a thorough gentleman.

Memories of him are now sacred and his abrupt passing shows us how ephemeral life is and how precious friends are.

Ram's family can perhaps be never consoled and I pray to God that he holds them tight in his divine bosom.

Ram was unlike any other and there will never be one like him.
