The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has appointed 22 new Advocates-on-Record for representing it in various cases before the Supreme Court which is double the strength in place till now.

Earlier, there were 11 advocates representing the State of Uttar Pradesh in the Supreme Court.

The charge of the earlier team of AORs has been brought to an end with immediate effect.

In a notification issued in April, it was informed that the Governor has assented to the appointment of 22 advocates on the post of AORs for the state of UP.

It is to be noted that with the change of party in power in every state and at the Centre, new advocates are appointed to represent the government in various judicial forums. However, when the Yogi government had come in power in UP, it had not changed its counsel which could be one of the reasons for the changeover now.

The UP government is party in various cases of national importance before the Supreme Court, with Babri Masjid-Ram Janambhoomi case being just one of the cases in point besides many Constitutional cases.
