World Water Day celebrated at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab in collaboration with Punjab Pollution Control Board, Patiala and Department of Forest & Wild Reservation celebrated World Water Day at its campus.

On this occasion an All India Inter-University competition, Expressions@RGNUL, was organised for the students to generate awareness about the water crisis. The event included Essay Writing, Poetry Recitation, Sketch a Word, Debate, Declamation, Spellathon, Elocution and Extempore for the Undergraduates and Postgraduates. The Theme of the event was Environmental Pollution and Water Crisis.

The inaugural function was presided by the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal. In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal, focussed on the importance of saving water. He observed that engaging students in activities related to water issues would promote awareness regarding water conservation. Mr. Samarjeet Goyal, Senior Environmental Engineer, Punjab Pollution Control Board contemplated on the shift in the agriculture methods that were essential to conserve water for sustainable development. Mr. Pawan Garg, Chief Environmental Engineer, PPCB, Dr. Anirudh Prasad, Prof. of Law and Dr. Anand Pawar, Prof. of Law, RGNUL were also present on the occasion.

Documentaries on the root cause of water crisis in India were also shown to the students during the event. Around 50 Students from different Institutes participated in various activities.

The topic for debate was ‘Water Crisis is Man Made’. The topic for Elocution was ‘Water Water Everywhere, not a drop to drink.’

The Prize Distribution Function of Expressions@RGNUL was presided over by
Dr. Charanjit Singh, Deputy Director (PR) Punjab Pollution Control Board, Patiala. Ms. Amarjeet Kaur, Forest Range Officer of the Department of Forest and Wild life Reservations was also present on the occasion. The award winners in various activities were given prizes and momentoes by the Vice-Chancellor, RGNUL, Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal and Dr. Charanjit Singh, Deputy Director, PPCB.

Winners:

Niten Nanak Grover of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management won the 1st prize in Debate, Arushi Dubey of UILS Chandigarh and Jasleen Virk of Postgraduate College for Girls Sec-11 Chandigarh and Tegveer Singh of B.A.LL.B (Hons.)-I RGNUL were adjudged the best speakers.

Ishnoor Singh Ghuman of Multani Mall Modi College Patiala won the 1st prize in Extempore. Tanvi Kashyap M.Sc (Chemistry) of Mata Gujri College Fatehgarh Sahib won the 1
st
prize in Declamation. Sangeeta of Govt. Mohindra College Patiala won the 1st prize in Poetry Recitation and Sketch a Word.

Mannat Arora of Punjab University Regional Centre Ludhiana got 1st prize for Ecopoetics. Harkamalpreet Ghera of RGNUL won the 1st prize in Essay writing.

Sangeeta B.Sc (Medical)-III of Govt. Mohindra College Patiala was adjudged the Best Performer during the event. Multani Mall Modi College Patiala won the Best Institutional Entry Award.

The meritorious students of RGNUL were also felicitated during the Prize Distribution Function. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Navleen Multani, Coordinator, Expressions@RGNUL.
