Vidhi Centre For Legal Policy Received Nearly Rs. 50 Lakhs From Centre For Helping With Aadhaar Act Formulation And Implementation

In the past five years, the Centre has paid nearly Rs. 50 lakh to Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy for their assistance with the formulation and implementation of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology told the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

The answer was tabled in response to a question raised by Congress MP Husain Dalwai, who sought to know whether the Government was spending funds for obtaining services from any independent legal policy advisory groups for hassle-free implementation of the Act. He also sought to know the expenditure incurred in the same.

In response, Mr. K.J. Alphons, who is the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, said that the Centre paid Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy Rs. 48,15,000 in the past five years for its “legal services”.

Mr. Alphons, however, asserted that at present, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was not receiving services from any independent legal policy advisory groups.
