The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea seeking for removal of the State Government in Maharashtra led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and for the imposition of the President's Rule in its stead in the State.

A Bench comprising of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, and Justices AS Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian heard the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and observed that the Court could not entertain or intervene in pleas with such prayers.

CJI Bobde informed the Petitioner Vikram Gehlot that he possessed the liberty to approach the President, but asked him not to come to the Court.

""As a citizen, you are at liberty to approach the President, but do not come here,"

The plea referred to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the demolition of actor Kangana Ranaut's property to portray to the Court that the law and order situation in the State of Maharashtra was at peril. It was argued that the affairs of the State were not being conducted in accordance with Constitutional and legal provisions.

In response to this submission, CJI Bobde remarked, "Are you saying that just because a Bollywood actor died, the State is not following provisions of the Constitution ?"

CJI Bobde further pointed out to the Petitioner that every instance of alleged breakdown of law and order mentioned in the plea was situated in Mumbai.

"Do you know how big the State of Maharashtra is ?", stated CJI Bobde.

Accordingly, the plea was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
