The Chief Justice of India U.U. Lalit, on Monday, clarified that the Supreme Court was devising a new mechanism for the listing of matters. After Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta enquired if the advocates could mention matters before the bench, CJI Lalit stated that a mechanism for listing would be prepared by Thursday. He stated that–

"Till then we will look at matters in the chamber and if it is urgent, we will list it...What we are doing is devising...that for listing we will go back to the original... which is that every matter which is registered shall be listed on some day or the other and be part of any advance list. It may be listed within 10 days or atleast be in the advance list so that one gets to know what's the date of listing."

The issue of listing matters was earlier flagged by Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave when he raised an issue with the working of the Supreme Court Registry before the then Chief Justice of India, N.V. Ramana. CJI Ramana, in his farewell speech in the ceremonial bench had apologised for not paying requisite attention to the issues related to listing of cases.

A day before taking oath as the Chief Justice of India, Justice Lalit had announced that he will try to bring in more transparency with respect to listing and mentioning of cases.
