'Why Should All Students Suffer Because Of Inconvenience Of Some?' : SC Refuses To Entertain Plea To Postpone Foreign Medical Graduates Exam

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a petition seeking the postponement of the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) scheduled on August 31.

The petitioner submitted that several students who are struck abroad are not in a position to return to India for the exams.

Not inclined to entertain the petition, Justice Mishra, the presiding judge of the bench, observed "Why do you want to delay your practice? Why should all students suffer because of inconvenience of some?"

Justice Mishra also pointed out that the exams are held twice in a year and the students who miss out the first attempt can appear for the second exam.

The bench, also including Justices B R Gavai and Krishna Murari, however allowed the petitioner's alternate prayer for consideration of a request for change of exam centre.

Accordingly, the bench disposed of the plea directing the National Board of Examination to take a decision within two days on the petitioner's representation for change of exam centre.

The FMGE exam is a licensure examination held for students who have secured MBBS degrees from foreign countries.

The same bench had last week dismissed a petition seeking the postponement of NEET-JEE exams scheduled to be held in September.
