Twitter has withheld the two tweets of Advocate Prashant Bhushan - posted on June 27 and June 29 - over which the Supreme Court took cognizance to issue contempt notice to him.

The said tweets are not viewable now, and are concealed with a message " This tweet from @pbhushan1 has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand".

On July 23, Justice Arun Mishra, the presiding judge in the bench, had orally asked Twitter India's counsel, Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya, why Twitter had not taken down the tweets despite the SC initiating contempt proceedings over it.

The Senior Counsel replied that Twitter was not defending Bhushan's tweets, and that the needful will be done in that regard.

While issuing notice to Prashant Bhushan, the SC expressed the prima facie view that his tweets "have brought the administration of justice in disrepute and are capable of undermining the dignity and authority of the Institution of Supreme Court in general and the office of the Chief Justice of India in particular, in the eyes of public at large"
