Supreme Court To Dismiss Over 1000 Cases Filed Between 2014-2020 If Filing Defects Are Not Cured Within 4 Weeks

The Supreme Court has recently by an order granted a last opportunity to the advocates on record to cure the defects of one thousand odd petitions filed before the apex court. The order stated that the batch of petitions that were filed before the apex court between 2014 to 2020 were sent back to the Advocates on Record for rectification and refiling but the Registry has still not received the rectified copies
The single judge bench of Justice P. S. Narasimha while hearing the matter in chamber, directed the respective Advocates on Record to cure the defects in the petitions and re-file them within a period of four weeks or else the case would stand dismissed. "As a last opportunity, we grant a further time of four weeks from today to cure the defects, failing which the cases shall stand dismissed without any further reference to the court" the order said.
The order also clarified that despite repeated reminders being sent to the counsels the petitions were not sent back to the registry after the defects were cured. Justice Narasimha allowed the 23 petitions from the batch of petitions to be withdrawn. The registry has also been directed to re notify 18 matters after verification, if necessary.
The Supreme Court registry had last month by an order scrapped 13,147 pre-2014 cases which were remaining with uncured defects.
