The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an application by an intervenor named seeking the recusal of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud from hearing the petitions seeking legal recognition for same-sex marriages.

The application was moved by an intervenor named Anson Thomas. "Chief justice of India should recuse from hearing this matter", he said.

 "Application rejected", CJI Chandrachud quickly responded.

Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta also objection to the recusal plea. "Since he has made the submission, I officially object to this submission", SG said, while terming the application for recusal an "aberration".

CJI DY Chandrachud is heading the Constitution Bench which is hearing the matter. Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, S Ravindra Bhat, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha are the other members of the bench. The bench commenced the hearing on April 18. Today is the ninth day of the hearing.
