The Supreme Court on Monday observed two minutes silence to condole the death of 77 members of the Supreme Court Bar Association due to COVID.
As the proceedings began on Monday after the summer recess, the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said that he was pained to note that 77 SCBA members have lost lives battling COVID.
"As informed by the Secretary of the SCBA, 77 members of SCBA have lost their lives battling COVID. I, on behalf of myself and my sister and brother judges, express our deepest condolences. We will observe two minutes silence", CJI Ramana said.
To pay homages to the departed members, the judges and the lawyers observed 2-minutes silence.
Mr. Gopal Sankaranarayanan, Senior Advocate, who happened to be online in Item 1, thanked the CJI for what he described as 'noble gesture' of remembering the departed souls from the Bench.
Mr.Vikas Singh, Senior Advocate and the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, who was appearing in item 3, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the SCBA for the CJI's gesture.
