The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, rejected a petition filed by the Maharashtra Government(while Uddhav Thackeary was the Chief Minister) seeking review of the Apex Court's order transferring the investigation in 5 FIRs against former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Param Bir Singh to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The review petition was filed on May 17, 2022.
A Bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M.M. Sundresh, after perusing the relevant material, concluded that the order under review 'does not suffer from any error warranting its reconsideration'.
The application seeking permission for oral hearing of the review petition was also rejected by the Bench.
In its order dated 24.03.2022, which had effected the transfer, the Bench had noted that principles of natural justice and fair play and impartial enquiry has made it imperative that the concerned cases be transferred to the CBI. It had refrained from giving a clean chit to any party involved in the matter. Refusing to comment on the allegations raised against Singh, the Bench had directed the CBI to conduct an impartial inquiry. It directed the State police and all concerned to render assistance to the CBI, as and when required.
