The Supreme Court, on Monday, indicated that it would launch the online RTI portal for the Supreme Court website next week.
"We are most likely to launch the online RTI portal next week."
When a matter pertaining to the online RTI portal for High Courts and lower judiciary was mentioned before a Bench comprising Chief Justice of India, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice J.B. Pardiwala, the CJI reckoned -
"We are completely ready. Some security audits were there. We will launch it next week."
He said that before the Supreme Court launches the portal it would not be appropriate for it to direct the High Courts to come up with an online RTI Portals. The CJI was of the opinion that as the Apex institution, it should lead by example. He assured that once the online RTI portal was launched for the Supreme Court website he would push the High Courts to implement the same.
"We cannot issue directions to the HC which we are yet to implement."
He directed the matter mentioned by the Counsel to be listed after 3 weeks.
Last Friday, in a plea seeking mechanism to set up an online portal for the Supreme Court for e-filing Right to Information (RTI) applications and first appeals, the CJI had informed that the online portal for filing RTI applications on the Supreme Court website is 'practically ready'.
"The portal is completely ready. It will be launched any time now."
The CJI, Chandrachud had orally remarked -
"You know, it would make our lives easier also if it becomes online…because of the large inflow of correspondence."
He added -
"We will now push the High Courts to also do this, if they have not already done so."
